Oh, this was a wonderful story — beautiful, visceral, raw, powerful. It’s about a shapeshifter and the one who loves them during WWI, and of their descendants, and it was just gorgeous.
I am now going out to seek out everything else Martino has written, because if they are half as good as this, they will be amazing.

Very imaginative concept. Just like the last story from this issue of Clarkesworld, I find it enjoyable when disparate passions are combined to make a beautiful tale. Space suit seamstress is a science fiction profession I have not encountered before, and I love it!
A quick read, yet suffused with a lot of emotion.

I’ve been watching a lot of Star Trek lately — DS9 and Voyager, the first time for both series for me! — and when I saw that this story felt like a Star Trek episode, I mean this in the best possible way: Futuristic space-travel that’s still just close enough to now to feel real; junior officers hashing out their pecking order; amusing antics with an animal. I loved it! A truly stellar story.
